 As many of you will know I became seriously ill in January 2010. It has taken two years to recover and although I still have some way to go the time has come for me to get myself back on the road to success.
Being seriously ill and unable to work for a long period of time changes the way that you see your life. Before all this happened to me my path was fairly clear. However, now I see it in a completely different light. Previously I had a job and was also involved in a number of potential business project. Now my priorities have changed. The life that I previously thought would never end nearly did, and the way I now see the future is very different.
As a result I have spent some considerable time considering where I am going and what I want to do. Because of my health issues it would be unrealistic to believe that I would be able to work again in a normal job. Who would employ a sick 61 year old person? I’m not being negative just a realist.
What are goals? Well after some thought I decide that I needed to achieve the following six goals:-
- Provide an income
- Improve my health and lifestyle
- Help other people who had experienced similar problems
- Being happy and feel valued
- Plan to celebrate my 91st Birthday!
- Occupy my time and become FREE
To start on the road to achieve these things I first needed to clear out the old baggage. That was hard in the beginning because I had a close relationship with all the things I had been doing over the years. However, what must, must be ... so the dustbin was opened and I had a good metaphorical clear out!
Projects I had worked on that were unlikely to ever see the light of day have now gone. Those things that cluttered my life have been sent to the tip as well. Some others are still yet to go when I can get around to it.
So having cleared my desk so to speak, I could then start looking at what was left that I wanted to include as part of my new life on this new road. The first thing was to find something that could make me an income without having to get a real job. I had always been interested in Network Marketing and had tried a number of them over the year, but with little success. Deep in my heart I knew why I had not succeeded. I had always claimed that it was not my style to sell things to people who probably did not want or need them. Why would I hound people like that.
But then when I started on this new road things just started to happen. About nine months ago, a friend Pierre Lavelle who lives in Portugal, called we when he heard that I was ill with cancer and offered to help me with some products that he sold as a Nu Skin representative. I listened with interested but my illness and the associated depression just clouded my thoughts and I turned him down. Like a true friend Pierre kept in contact and offered to help me when and if I wanted to accept it. He didn’t pester me, just showed concern.
More recently as my recovery speeded up and I started this process to change my life Pierre popped up again and this time I stopped and listened. What he told me and the results I could reasonably achieve would satisfy my first goal, that of providing an income. As a real bonus the products that Nu Skin sold were all about health, anti-ageing and improving ones lifestyle. So Pierre had inadvertently solved not one but the second of my goals.
When I researched the Nu Skin products further and watched the videos, listened to the testimonials I suddenly realised with some excitement that I could also help others who had experienced cancer or some other serious condition recover and then help them improve their lifestyle exactly as I was starting to do. They could try the products and if they worked for them that would be a great outcome. If they wanted to join me in Nu Skin then they could and with my help, at that of those above me, achieve an income streams as well. That was my third goal made possible. Just three to go.
Knowing that quite quickly I would be earning a good income for myself and improving my health and lifestyle then duplicating it with others that could also benefit provided the bonus of achieving my fourth goal of being happy and feeling valued. As my health started to return I realised that many of the products I was advocating would actually not just improve my health but make a huge difference long term. In fact I am planning to celebrate in 29 years with my 91st birthday my fifth goal. That apparently is my projected life span! :)
Finally this should all keep me occupied and busy doing those things that I enjoy doing the most allowing me to achieve my sixth and final goal and freedom at last.
I have thousands of contacts around the world and I want to help those who have a real desire to do more than just a job each day, that brings in enough money to barely exist. I want to make money myself, but to do that I need to help other achieve the same. But ... as I have indicated above, I still had a few other things I wanted to do. I sieved through them and finally binned them all bar one that I have been passionate about for a long time. As an added bonus I suddenly saw an amazing opportunity to use that idea to help me further my network marketing business and of course all those who I was working with.
That idea I had called The Organic Network Concept and it had been in my life for over four years. I had talked about it to lots of people but it never progressed because I could not fund any of it myself and could not find anyone who might do so. It seemed such a shame to me as the idea is quite sound and i’m convinced will work and would be a big success. Since my illness ruled my life for so long I suddenly realised that if I did nothing the idea would die. I’d rather own 5% of something that was doing really well than 100% of something sat in a file on my computer. I also realised that I did not want to manage this new business, that would be achieved by a team that had all the best skills, rather than someone like me!
Fortunately for me when I put out a message to my contacts asking for anyone who might be interested in helping me to contact me, a number of people did. Some told me they could not help, others were encouraging, some wanted to know what was in it for them, while a few stood up and offered to help.
I have one person who has stepped beyond the mark and is now considering the project to see if it is viable from his point of view, how might we raise the money, what is the potential for investors and also to come up with a plan to bring the project to life. Over the next few weeks we will decide if we are to progress with the idea.
